A Little About the Academic Assistance Program
• Tutoring takes place at RAISE28 youth center: 105 Fairview St., Mount Joy, PA 17552
• The Process: Parents and students submit needs and schedules; Volunteer tutors are matched with students and briefed on material; Parent, student, and tutor begin with an introductory meeting.
• Tutoring sessions are 30 minutes; students may attend up to two sessions per week
• Parents not required during sessions for students in 6th grade and up
• A light snack is offered at each session
• Program fulfills RAISE28’s mission to reach local youth with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus
Volunteer Requirements
• Must be 16 years or older
• Completion of required clearances:
• Criminal Background Check
• Child Abuse Clearance
• FBI Clearance (if applicable)
• Mandated Reporter Training
• Completed Volunteer Application and interview process
• Commitment of at least six months
• Willing to tutor a minimum of two students per semester
• Each student may receive up to two 30-minute sessions per week
• Consistent scheduling preferred (weekly or bi-weekly)
• High school diploma or higher; student volunteers must demonstrate working knowledge of the subject
• Reliable transportation
